UGC Vice Chairman Professor Wasantha Liyanage stated that candidates qualifying for higher education through the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination currently face wait times of around a year and a half before being enrolled at certain universities. However, this delay does not affect all academic tracks; Professor Liyanage noted that students selected for Engineering and Medical faculties are already enrolled across all universities without such setbacks.

Key Directives for Vice-Chancellors

  • Identify the specific factors causing prolonged delays in student admissions.
  • Draft actionable solutions to address and eliminate the existing enrollment bottlenecks.
  • Recommend strategic measures for implementation across institutions in the coming years.

Action will be taken to resolve the issue and standardize the admission timeline once the proposals submitted by the Vice-Chancellors have been reviewed and evaluated.
