Sri Lanka’s Exports Hit Over US$10 Billion in Record Growth

Sri Lanka’s Export Sector Surpasses $10 Billion in 2026

COLOMBO (News 1st) — Sri Lanka’s export sector is demonstrating robust performance, having surpassed the impressive benchmark of $10 billion in total export earnings within the first seven months of 2026. This accomplishment highlights a positive trajectory in the nation’s economic recovery, particularly in the wake of recent challenges.

Impressive Growth Figures

According to provisional data released by Sri Lanka Customs, total export earnings from goods and services reached an estimated $10.49 billion between January and July 2026. This figure marks a notable 5.5% increase when compared to the same period in the previous year, 2025.

Merchandise exports emerged as the key driver of this performance, contributing $8.19 billion to the overall earnings. This represents a growth of 5.05% from the prior year, affirming the resilience of Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and export capabilities.

Service Sector on the Rise

In tandem with goods exports, the services sector also showed positive results, with earnings reaching an estimated $2.3 billion from January to July 2026. This marks a substantial 7.02% increase over the previous year, reflecting the expanding scope of Sri Lanka’s services industry.

Monthly Export Performance

Breaking down the numbers further, July 2026 alone saw merchandise exports valued at approximately $1.29 billion, which represents a slight decline of 1.3% compared to the same month in 2025. Notably, the services export sector continued its upward trend, generating around $351.92 million in July—an increase of 3.75% year-on-year, reinforcing the sector’s continual growth.

As a result, Sri Lanka’s overall export earnings for July amounted to an estimated $1.64 billion, showing a respectable 2.63% growth compared with the same month in 2025. This steady increase in export revenue is critical for the country as it seeks to bolster its foreign exchange reserves and strengthen its position in the global market.

Looking Ahead

The trajectory of Sri Lanka’s exports suggests a resilience and adaptability in both the goods and services sectors, as the nation navigates through economic recovery and challenges. As the year progresses, stakeholders and policymakers will be looking closely at these figures, working to sustain growth momentum and explore further opportunities for international trade.

With the right strategies in place, Sri Lanka aims to solidify its position as a pivotal player in the South Asian export market, enhancing economic stability and growth for the benefit of all Sri Lankans.
