The move comes as Rajapaksa remains subject to two active arrest warrants in Sri Lanka. The first warrant pertains to the alleged purchase of a 1.5-acre plot of land in Brown’s Hill, Matara, using illicitly acquired funds.
The second warrant involves the alleged misappropriation of state funds during the Uva Provincial Council election campaign, where Rs. 7.8 million from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau was allegedly used to procure and distribute 12,000 T-shirts.
