Sri Lanka has officially launched the implementation of UNESCO’s Artificial Intelligence Readiness Assessment Methodology, establishing a formal framework to evaluate the country’s capacity to integrate, regulate, and scale artificial intelligence technologies responsibly.

The Readiness Assessment Methodology, commonly designated as RAM, functions as a structured diagnostic instrument designed to examine national ecosystems across legal, social, regulatory, and infrastructural dimensions. Through this process, national stakeholders can systematically gauge the country’s institutional capabilities, data governance systems, and technical infrastructure.
Key Assessment Focuses
- Comprehensive diagnostic review of national regulatory frameworks and governance readiness for artificial intelligence.
- Identification of capacity and infrastructural needs required to support safe and ethical technology adoption.
- Benchmarking of domestic digital policies against established multilateral recommendations.
By engaging with the assessment methodology, Sri Lanka establishes an analytical baseline intended to inform evidence-based policy decisions, address systemic institutional gaps, and shape the strategic direction of its emerging technology initiatives.
