Appointed on April 29, the committee revealed that it successfully drafted a brand-new SLC Constitution within its first two months. The draft has been submitted to the government and is currently being prepared for presentation in Parliament.

Key Highlights

  • Domestic League Restructuring: Reducing Major Tier A clubs from 14 to 10 over the next two years while retaining 12 Tier B clubs.
  • Four-Day Format: Extending the Major Club Tier A League from three-day to four-day matches to improve player readiness for Test cricket.
  • Umpiring & Coaching Upgrades: Recruiting former ICC umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Ruchira Palliyaguruge to raise officiating standards, alongside appointing new district and provincial coaches.
  • Medical & Mental Health Support: Restructuring sports medicine with expert guidance from Dr. Alex Kountouris and introducing a dedicated sports psychologist for the men’s national team.
  • Financial Streamlining: Slashing unnecessary expenses by withdrawing from redundant legal disputes, terminating non-essential consultancy contracts, and optimizing staffing structures.
  • Groundskeeping & Infrastructure: Appointing a national curator and bringing international venue curators under direct SLC employment.

The overhaul also places strong emphasis on grassroots and women’s cricket, introducing professional development programs for female players, revamping school cricket systems, and implementing a structured calendar with built-in recovery periods. Furthermore, the committee confirmed it has taken steps to provide redress to clubs and personnel unfairly targeted by past administrative decisions as part of its long-term goal to transform SLC into a world-class sports body.
